Last week I went to Crete, to a small town named Kolymbari. We stayed for a week and the weather was warm and sunny. My favorite kind of weather:)
During the week we did a lot of swimming, walking and just enjoying the beauty of the small town.
Nice view from the beach. The beach itself is not the strength of Kolymbari, its filled with stones and its a bit tricky to get into the water. But the views are amazing and we swim a lot in out pool:)
Could the sea be more blue? View from a restaurant by the Mediterranean sea.
A barren place, where to cars where watching the sea:)
The sun is about to set behind the mountains, wonderful evenings here.
I can’t help myself from wondering about the guests… The parking sign seems to be a bit newer than the house.
A trip to Elafonisi
We heard about the beach Elafonisi and decided to go there for a day. It was supposed to be something extra, like Cretes “Thailand”. It was really nice, soft sand but it was a bit windy. Still we enjoyed our day, a lot. The trip there was not so pleasant, going by bus on small roads in the mountains… We passed a tunnel through a ravine and the tunnel was hardly larger than the bus…
The beach was surrounded by mountains, which was rather cool.
On the way back, we stopped by the Topolia Gorge. Nice to see but not so nice tor travel the small roads…
Suddenly the rain has gone and the air is filled with crisp and its so wonderful to breath in. This photo was taken after weeks of rain and finally the sun return an awesome moment when I felt a lot of you, which I hope shows:)
I have gone through my photos for this summer and my summer summary contains a lot of activities outside, in nature and by the sea in the archipelago. A great summer that started with a lot of rain in June and later turned into a fantastic summer with a lot of sunny days.
Here you will find a lot of photos in a gallery that tell a lot about this summer from a rain wet rose in June to sunny days by the sea. This summer has been amazing and the photos will be enjoyed for a long time:) I will come back to them during the winter, I think it is a great way to keep the summer feeling for a longer time.
Some of the photos have been on this blog in earlier posts but I think they have to be included in this summary, I hope you don’t mind to enjoy them once more…
To watch the summer summary you can also click on one of the photos to enlarge them and to watch them in a carousel.
This Thursday nature post is a celebration to the very first summer flowers. I think that May-June are the most beautiful months of all. Flowers all around and new are coming constantly. A month from now there are considerable less number of different flowers. Here and now, especially in this moment:-)
I wish to welcome early summer
I wish to embrace all flowers in the world
I wish to scream out; hello my friends, welcome back!
Everything wakes up and everywhere a new life begins. Reborn or newborn, a work of Mother Nature.
Like the Magnolia blossoms in my garden or the daisies that just pops up everywhere in the grass, awesome to watch them facing the sun. :
Even if it is early summer, some flowers already are ready to leave and to give life to new flowers next year like this Dandelion:
I will finish this walk through early summer flowers with an amazing “sea” of tulips, they are really wonderful in their soft pink color, don’t you think?
I can hardly imagine anything more romantic than Italy. I been there 5 times now and just love it. Last summer we went to Lido, an Island just outside Venice. These photos I took from a Vaporetto boat on our way on the Grand Canal. A fantastic way to see the most of Venice! To read more about the Travel Theme, got to http://wheresmybackpack.com!
I now have started to get tired of my lack of inspiration. The weather outside is +2 °C and grey, grey, grey. This has been the story for the last week now. My inspiration to go out to take photos is zero… This is not really fun, so I started to dig in my “pile” of photos that are stored in my computer. I found these photos taken during summer of 2012. The weather was not so good that summer, a lot of rain, but still so much more pleasant to look at than the current weather situation;-)
I also made b&w versions of my photos, some is better, I think, than the colored ones. But some looks better in color. What do you think about it? I believe b&w can really be striking in some photos. I did not expect that to happen with a photo of flowers, but look at the last photos in this post!
During the week in Italy we lived in Lido de Venezia, a small island just across the water from Venice. It was a nice experience, not so many tourists and some great thing to see. Even here there was some smaller channels, like this one:
I just love the great colors at the boats and the water, this one has some really great contrasts:
During the walk we passed through some lovely details like this tap:
I sort of love this kind of deserted industries. Something sad over it but still some great structures and character. And with all that green it gets a good photo:)
Finally I always shoot photos of houses… And rooftops:) This is the view from our hotel, a lovely view if you ask me! I can hardly believe, now in the winter that the sky can actually be like this…
In my next post there will be some photos from the Vaporetto boat on our way back home, photos taken in Venice.
